A Very Newbury Holiday with Ken Fulk
’Tis the season for a festive, spirit-lifting, Ken Fulk–designed getaway at The Newbury. Boston’s holidays are a love letter to tradition—snow-dusted museums, twinkling streets, and our iconic city at its most enchanted. Here at The Newbury, we’re embracing a modern-classic mood, with holiday finery styled to the nines by the inimitable Ken Fulk.
“When The Newbury asked to collaborate and create a space in the hotel that reflected a little bit of both of us, I jumped at the chance,” says Fulk. “We’ve adorned the library for the holidays. We filled it with beautiful flora. Garlands across every surface. I brought in my favorite finds.” And it’s here: Fulk’s decked our halls for celebration—layering magic in our Library with magnolia-leaf garlands kissing the mantles, flickering red tapers, gilded velvet ribbons, holiday greenery, a potted Christmas cactus, and a vintage bronze dog. Expect high-drama vignettes and Instagram-worthy moments at every turn.
A visionary designer renowned for unforgettable experiences, transportive destinations, and community cultivation, Fulk has spent 25 years shaping how we gather, celebrate, and style our lives. No stranger to Boston—or to The Newbury—his first home after college was on Commonwealth Ave. He designed Contessa on our rooftop and is the creative mind behind The ’Quin House. Most recently, he was honored with the Druker Award for Excellence in Design and Architecture at the Boston Public Library.
For the cozy interludes (and we live for those), there’s the glow that only a great fireplace can deliver. Fulk’s favorite part of our memory-making Boston home: “This time of year is like where you come in and you get cozy and you get close. The Newbury has a fire butler who will come and light your fire, and you can pick the kind of wood. Dreams do come true.” To mark the season, we invited Fulk to strike the first match in our coveted Fireplace Suites, and he’s christened our Library with signature exuberance—starting with the festive sounds of his holiday playlist and the fragrance of his exclusive candles, No. 471 and No. 176.
Outside this cozy hideaway, discover more of Ken’s curated finds in our vitrine cabinet—an intimate Ken Fulk Holiday Pop-Up befitting “The Purveyor of the Extraordinary.” Shop exclusive scents inspired by his homes in Provincetown and San Francisco, pair them with artisan wick trimmers or marbleized matchboxes, and browse an array of books and miniature framed works by artist Jefferson Hayman—perfect for gifting. For the dog lover, there are antique accessories like doorstoppers and bookends, as well as Fulk’s own line of bespoke leather dog collars.
The rituals—weekend escapes, a tipple by the fire, lingering conversations—become the keepsakes. As Fulk notes, “I’m all about rituals. Every moment really does matter whether they’re little or big. And you can’t just let them pass because they become the cornerstones of our lives.” From the discovery of thoughtful holiday gifts to gathering around the fire in a library dressed for the season, Ken Fulk celebrates the importance of tradition, beauty, and warmth during the holidays.
We have a bevy of exciting festivities to share. But for now, join us for a Very Newbury Holiday. Because you, us, Ken Fulk, and the holidays? That’s the perfect match.
